Learning to really read the Bible requires a lot from you, but it is more than worth it. The Bible is incredibly important in getting to know God and His will. Now it is quite difficult for us to read the Bible, because in our culture we are used to processing information quickly. Commercials are fast, series on demand, and news directly available at all times in dozens of ways. This is in stark contrast to the way the Bible works. God’s Word requires a lot of time and effort to understand it. From a spiritual point of view, we have also become accustomed to a quick bite by looking for a nice speaker on YouTube with a message to suit our taste or by digesting a sermon live. Many Christians think they are unable to pick up God’s words from the Bible, but it just takes training. Toiling and digging in the Bible in search of God’s words already has value in itself. You become familiar with the soil you are digging in and the materials you use. You learn to find your way in the Bible better and better. The purpose of all that digging is not necessarily about gaining more knowledge. That is a nice bonus, but the goal is to discover Biblical principles by studying a Bible passage.
