The Royal Church

The church is God’s idea Last week we had our new training day ‘The Royal Church’ for the first time in Veenendaal. In the Shelter, people from all kinds of churches were present on a well-organized day, in which, among other things, ‘the church is God’s idea’, ‘the church as a family’ and the accompanying meal were central. Elders, team leaders, elders and ‘ordinary’ church members had come with hunger and expectation. There is a lot to say and write about this day of ‘hope for the church’, especially after all the reactions and feedback from the participants. Here I would like to highlight a sub-theme that Martin Dol raised in the first training block. Martin reduced the functioning of churches to two categories. Of course a simplification, but possibly recognizable. The church as a stone building

  • Where: concretely indicated (both geographically and linguistically)
  • Fruit: we measure ‘success’ by attendance (visitors, donations, etc.)
  • Who is in action: the stage residents
  • Done: listened, sung and prayed
  • Feeding: take away
  • Family stage: family with fairly loose relationships
  • Parenting: no longer seems necessary and is reserved for a few scheduled times
  • Education: instruction to listeners
  • World: important, that is why guests are invited to cross a threshold and enter the church

Name = attractional model (attracting people) It seems that safety reigns in this model. The ‘fear’ of actually making Jesus come true is regulated by safety, protection and organization. The church as living stones – group of people

  • Where: coming together as a group of Christians; e.g. in residential, work, living and sports environments
  • Fruit: meaning for their environment
  • Who takes action: everyone, after all, we are all called to make disciples
  • Done: serving with and praying for each other and the environment
  • Feeding: multi-course buffet with plenty of room for meeting and growth
  • Family phase: growing children, who bring friends into the family
  • Parenting: on the job, especially during meals
  • Education: training to become disciples with love
  • World: you just encounter them in your regular environment. You cross the threshold and bring the church to people.

Name = incarnation model (living out the gospel for people) It seems that freedom reigns in this model. The recognizable ‘fear’ of actually making Jesus come true is taken away by love. Precisely where love reigns, the command to multiply (started with Adam and renewed in the Great Commission of Matthew 28) gains its breeding ground and the line of 2 Timothy 2:2 becomes more visible. The next training day is overJanuary 11 in Zwolle and is about child, teenage and youth work . You are very welcome and bring others with you. The training day is over‘The Royal Church’ will be opened in Drachten on May 17, 2014 repeated Information and registration of training With thanks to the report and additions from Jan Lok:
