This summer, Royal Mission, led by Martin and Karin, was able to give a new impetus to children’s and youth work at the De Betteld holiday park. It has become a great collaboration between De Betteld and our Royal Mission team. And this is just the beginning! Nine weeks of Kids Praise!
On Monday, June 28, Prisca Jacobi started a 9-week internship as a singing leader at the Kids Praise. Every weekday from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM, primary school children were invited to sing to the Lord. Prisca, always supplemented by a number of singers and musicians, led the children in enthusiastic praise and worship. Every week there was a coach from RM to support, advise, train and encourage her. Wiebrand, Margreet, Wieke and Karin have given a lot of input to this. We have been able to invest a lot in Prisca, singers, musicians and the children. And the result is special! A big party!
The week regularly started with 30 timid children and ended with more than 100 kids going crazy for the King! Beforehand, some people were pessimistic about whether it would work and whether ‘the boys’ would participate. But we believe and know that children love to sing. Watch! The songs were alternated with a game, learning movements or a whole party was organized. With sweets, flags, instruments and lots of interaction, it became a royal party again and again. Many children wanted to take the CD with the songs home, so the party continued in the car as well!
Royal Adventure Hundreds of young people participated this summer in Royal Adventure, De Betteld’s renewed youth program. Under the leadership of Gerlof Wiersma, Job Jonkman or Martin Koornstra, enthusiastic team leaders got to work with their teams. Personal, interactive and very pleasant. And therefore confrontational, profound and innovative. The good collaboration with worship leader Hanne de Vries and the sports team made it a wonderful adventure. The start was legendary every week with the water slide, throw, fight and balloon fight. The young people fought for every balloon and the tone was immediately set: Challenging and with dedication.
Changed lives A youth meeting two evenings a week, a youth Bible study two mornings by the guest speaker and a lot of conversation and prayer for young people. Dozens of lives have been touched, changed or completely renewed. What a blessing! Royal Adventure is also a practical training in leadership for young people. The team leaders have learned a lot from practice, through coaching and specific training moments this summer. National investments are also being made in teenage and youth work. Special isn’t it!
The future This summer is just the beginning. We will soon sit down with Gerhard Hobbelman (De Betteld) to see how we will further develop Kids Praise and Royal Adventure in the future. That will probably already be during the autumn holidays and of course next summer too. We will keep you informed.
