This afternoon the time had come. Our farewell party from VBG Bethel. Of course we will still be employed until September 1, but this was the moment to look back together on 5 special years.
We had already had the last X-stream 3 weeks ago. Together with almost 700 young people and employees, we had our last teenage service, during which Gerlof (my fellow youth worker), Gerard (floor manager) and I (Martin) were waved goodbye. It was a special morning, in which we were gloriously blessed. Very emotional. As I walked among the teenagers blessing, I felt like I was walking through a cornfield and could see last year’s harvest. I was right in the middle of it!
This morning Karin had her last children’s church. A very beautiful morning in which the best songs and best raps appeared again. And in the middle of it a talk from Karin about the core of the gospel in 4 symbols. All children received the 4 symbols printed on a cool sweatband. She was also blessed by hundreds of children and employees. That touches your heart!
In November 2008 we told Orlando that we would be resigning so that we could start a new adventure. In that conversation we already said ‘that we would say goodbye with a celebration’. Today was the day. A party to celebrate what God has done in the past 5 years.
The testimonials, thank yous and gifts are heart-warming. The performances by sweet little dancing girls, the Joy Kids and a bunch of dancing teenagers were fantastic. The speeches by Orlando, the heads, the basic teams and of course Herman and Jolanda van Vliet touched our hearts and tested our laughing muscles. It was a grand and fun party with a cotton candy machine, an ice cream stall and delicious snacks. A party for all ages, beautifully organized by the Bethel.
Now we are on the eve of the real start of Royal Mission. It has already started and yet we know that the real start will come at the beginning of September. Then we live entirely from and for this new work and from the friends and partners who will support us. It is nice to see that people are already supporting us in prayer, care and finances.
What a wonderful day. Thank you all for the wonderful years, the special moments and the great collaboration. And above all, thanks to the King!
