Plan D

In the previous blog we wrote about our various ‘escape’ plans to get to the Netherlands. Unfortunately, plan A, plan B and C proved to be unfeasible, which meant we had to switch to plan D; back to the guesthouse. To compress! After a few hours of trying in the middle of the night to no avail, we finally had to give up. We were able to get our suitcases off the treadmill again and then trudge back, fully packed, to the taxi that dropped us off in front of our guesthouse at half past six in the morning. Well, there are a lot of worse things, but at that moment we were really done with it. We had been looking forward to the moment to go home again and if that is suddenly postponed, it is quite a setback. Besides, we had no idea how long it would take…

Fortunately, we were finally able to fly three days later and we got off in Paris on Wednesday afternoon where we were picked up by Gerard’s father and brother, great! Happy to be back in Europe at least, but when the sliding doors to the outside world opened…. brrrr! “Where did we end up… in a cold room?”

Acclimatize

Both literally and figuratively. Now that we have been here for a week, we can say that we have already acclimatized quite a bit, but it still took some getting used to. Everything we once considered very normal in the Netherlands now suddenly seems very strange. And everything is so flat, bare, cold, but above all luxurious! We just let it wash over us for the first few days and enjoyed all the luxury. A good bed, hot shower and delicious food… we can now enjoy that even more. What we enjoy most is seeing friends and family again; how good to see everyone again!

And now…

…it is time (but also priority) to rest. Celebrate holidays, meet up with family and friends, do fun things and sleep. We will do this for the first few weeks. Just clear our heads and give up everything that is occupying us at the moment.

Contact!

Even though we are in Groningen, we are still easily accessible :-P. Simply via our email, but also via our ‘old’ mobile numbers:

  • Gerard (06-55330551)
  • Baukje (06-51315990)

Feel welcome to drop by in our beautiful house in Lauwersoog, cozy! Because we are on the road a lot, it is useful to call in advance.

See you soon!?
