There we are again… back at our temporary home base in South Africa. We had a good flight. Yesterday afternoon, after returning home, I tidied everything up and did some shopping so I could get back to work today. We were of course very curious to see how Andre and Maxwell did it together.
We were confident that everything would turn out well, but it is also exciting to see how you will encounter everything again. Luckily they did a very good job! It has rained a lot in recent weeks, which sometimes made it very difficult to reach all the tunnels. In addition, a number of tunnels were in danger of collapsing and rain sometimes hampered the work. That’s why they did everything they could to finish their work during the hours when there was no rain. On the right track! The advantage of the rain is that the vegetables have grown enormously! We are really surprised that it can grow so fast in two weeks.
In addition to moving a number of tunnels, a lot of time will be spent next week collecting and selling the harvest. In addition to the ‘normal’ work, Andre also took on the accounting. Tomorrow morning we will go to him after the soup kitchen to see if this also went well.
We have already written about ACAT in our newsletter. We are thinking about perhaps working with them to learn more about their way of working. This will be for a period of 5 months. When we come, they want to seriously invest in us and that is why they want a commitment from us that we will actually do something with it in the coming years. Because this is of course difficult to determine in advance, we have made an agreement to first participate for a few days and see whether it suits our way of working.
This will be next week, as it is the last training week of this year for them. We first waited to see how Andre and Maxwell would do and because this went well, we can also go to ACAT for a while. We are curious!
We’ll have a visitor on Saturday a week from now! Mindert (Gerard’s brother) and Nienke are coming over for a week, fun!
Due to the favorable ticket prices (€350 for a return Amsterdam – Johannesburg), it is sometimes nice to drop by. They can help us and we can use the time we save to see and do some fun things!
We are already busy with our daily activities and are also busy planning for the coming weeks. Strange that we were still in the Netherlands a few days ago. We really enjoyed seeing a lot of people and catching up. We were so spoiled with cakes and other delicious food that we went to the gym again this evening. :)- Even though it was only a short visit, it was good to be back. Thanks everyone!
