A fresh start

We started last week in many different ways. Started in a new season, a new year, with new health and new raw materials.

New season

After months of rain/showers/storms/hail and tornadoes, the end of the rainy season now seems to be in sight. Fortunately, it did not rain every day, but we are now back in the dry season with nice weather, a good temperature and beautiful blue skies. A lot of rain has fallen (more than falls in the Netherlands in a whole year) and the landscape has changed from withered yellow to fertile green. With all that rain, we often got the car stuck in the mud. That will also be over in the coming months :).

“Cutting off the road during the rainy season is not a good idea :). Thanks to the truck driver who pulled us out”

New year

As we have mentioned before, Ethiopia uses a different calendar, which means that the new year (2005) started last Tuesday. For the occasion, we bought a cow for our employees, which was transformed from cow to neatly distributed meat parcels in just a few hours. They left our company with happy faces to prepare and eat the meat with the family. After this ‘holiday’ everyone is now back to work.

New health

In the last newsletter we wrote that Gerard would take it a bit easier. He took some time away from work for a few months to relax again. This has been good and he has now regained energy. We ended the last period with a midweek holiday. We went to Langano with Peter, Heleen and kids , two hours south of Debre Zeit. The conviviality, tranquility, sun and delicious food were wonderful! Worth repeating 🙂 Gerard has now started his work again.

“Relax on holiday”

New raw materials

Pfff, it cost us a lot of energy to import our container of granules. A number of changes have not made it any easier. Fortunately, this party now realizes this, but that does not mean that the next containers will be easy to import again. All in all, we had a complete standstill in production for a total of 2 weeks, because all our granules were gone. Everyone was happy when the new granules arrived again. The fact that it was on a Saturday evening was no problem for them. We had just returned from our holiday, while they were unloading the container together, on their own initiative. Special, right?

“Just rest after all the work”

Well, enough news from Dukem :). We would also like to hear how you are doing. Have a nice weekend!
